When I was young, growing up in the Midwest, my aunt struck courageously out on her own to become a successful fashion designer in California. I was so impressed by her fearlessness. I remember finding beads she left behind in my grandparents’ house and being given permission to have them and making my first attempts at jewelry.

Years later, I discovered semi-precious stone and freshwater pearl beads. I became a total nut for rocks, fossils and minerals! My “addiction” was born and combined with my love of the outdoors, especially our National Parks. 

Every time I touched those beads, I saw in my mind’s eye the colors and wonders of places and memories that I was drawn to recreate. I loved making something totally different that felt like it fit with my personality.

I also found with time that my jewelry became a way for me to celebrate special moments in the lives of those I loved- a graduation, birthday, promotion, anniversary, holiday, farewell, or just to say, “I love you.” But, most of all, I discovered that creating these unique and beautiful pieces was a way to lift the spirits and hearts of those around me; to bring joy, peace, and even healing into their hearts by making something perfect for them too.

I am largely self-taught, but have also trained in silversmithing with the London Jewellery School. But, in case you’re wondering, I didn’t start out a jeweler- in fact, I’m a soil scientist by degree and spent years leading environmental cleanup projects! Now I use that sense of methodical experimentation and improvement to drive innovation in my designs. When I discovered silver metal clay, I fell head-over-heels. I already loved making jewelry, but for a scientist like me, finding out that I could transform one industry’s waste product into beautiful works of art was a point-of-no-return.

I am grateful to my family, friends, coaches, and customers who have supported me on this exciting entrepreneurial journey. Like my aunt, I have always believed that dreams are possible if you have the courage to take the first step. I look forward to sharing this walk with you!
